The WIPPES Act (Senate Bill 1092) has officially passed the United States Senate by unanimous consent on March 23, 2026—an important step forward in protecting wastewater systems from non-flushable wipes! If signed into law, the bill would require manufacturers to clearly label packaging with a “Do Not Flush” symbol and warning.

This milestone reflects years of collaboration and advocacy led by the California Association of Sanitation Agencies and national partners, along with bipartisan leadership from Senator Jeff Merkley and Senator Susan Collins.

What’s Next: The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, where efforts will continue to advance it toward becoming law. Stay tuned for more updates on this win for wastewater agencies across the county.
