A trickling filter is a part of the wastewater treatment unit where water flows over material covered in helpful bacteria that naturally clean the water. Work is currently taking place at our Plant No. 1 trickling filters to replace the material inside. Replacing the material, or media, helps ensure reliable and effective wastewater treatment.

There may be temporary odors in the surrounding area as the media is removed, broken down into smaller pieces, and hauled away.  This activity is expected to last 2-3 weeks.  We understand odors can be a concern and appreciate the community’s patience as we complete this important maintenance work.

For any odor concerns, please contact the OC San Control Center at (714) 593-7025.
