Emergency Repair Closes Lanes at Red Hill and Main in Irvine
Updated: 2/14/2019 at 7:50am
Crews have been working all night to make the needed repairs and they are almost complete. It is anticipated that the force main will be back in service by early afternoon with traffic control picked afterwards. As a precaution due to the rain, bypass is online above ground, traveling along the gutter from the station to the next manhole which is at the intersection of Main and Red Hill. As such, thru traffic at the intersection is still restricted. If we get increased flow before the pipe is up and running again the bypass system will be used.
We thank the City of Irvine, Santa Ana, and the Irvine Ranch Water District for their help and support during this emergency work. We also appreciate the quick response of our contractors Jamison Engineering, Charles King Co., Performance Pipeline Technologies, and Roadway Construction Service. And most of all, our staff who worked nonstop until a solution was found to get the station up and running again and are still out there making sure everything is restored as quickly as possible.

The Orange County Sanitation District is working on an emergency repair of a force main at our Main Street Pump Station on Main Street between Red Hill and MacArthur in the City of Irvine. The repair requires that we bypass the wastewater from the pump station to a temporary above ground pipes along the gutter from the station to the next manhole which is at the intersection of Main and Red Hill. Traffic in this area will be impacted. If traveling northbound on Red Hill vehicles will not be able to go through Main St, they will need to make a left or right at Main St. Those traveling southbound on Red Hill will need to detour at Mitchell or Sky Park – vehicles will not be able to go through Red Hill or access Main at all. It is anticipated that this closure will remain in place for the next 24 hours to 48 hours, depending on how quickly the repair can be made. Two westbound lanes on Main Street are closed from Sky Park to Red Hill.
