Construction on State College is Moving North

construction alert header

The sewer is now installed in the stadium area, the street has been paved and restored. Thank you all for your patience during this time. We are now moving north to continue replacing the sewer line. Take a look at the progress map to view our work area and proposed schedule. A few updates for the next few weeks are below:

April 4, 2019

Ball Road to Clifpark Way

Construction is making its way north. Restriping and k-rail installation is occurring today. This section of road will be done to two lanes in each direction. The northbound bus stop will be relocated, please see posted alerts at bus stops.

The sewer at the Ball Rd. intersection will be installed via jack and bore which is a method of tunneling. Two pits are required to insert and remove the tunneling machine, and to insert the new pipe. The first work activity to occur will be excavation of the pits which will happen north and south of the intersection.

Cerritos Avenue to Ball Road

Final paving on this area is scheduled for the next few days. A full closure of Winston Avenue (east/west traffic) is required to pave across the intersection. The street will be closed from Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Through traffic on State College will be allowed but no left turns onto Winston will be permitted. Early next week the k-rail will be removed, and the street will be restored to its original condition.

The sewer at the Cerritos Avenue intersection is being installed via jack and bore which is a method of tunneling. Two pits are required to insert and remove the tunneling machine and to install the new sewer line. The pits are just north and south of the intersection. This work is ongoing

Howell Avenue to Cerritos Avenue

Sewer installation continues. Various operations occurring including open-cut installation (excavation) and tunneling under the street.
Regular work hours are Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., however, the schedule in this area will vary based on Angel games so as not to interfere with traffic.

Water line installation at Cerritos Avenue will occur at night from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

State College Avenue: Katella to Orangewood

Sewer installation in this area is now complete. Crews will need to return at a later date to make the final sewer connections, but that work will be minimal.

There is still work to be done at the intersection of Orangewood and State College, that will occur during away games or until the end of the baseball season. Either way, we will keep you posted on that activity as we have more details.

We understand construction can be an inconvenience, we apologize in advance and appreciate your patience as we work to improve our infrastructure.

**Due to the nature of the work, and the desire to complete the work as soon as possible, the sewer replacement at the major intersections will take place at different times, details to follow as construction progresses.

*Dates are subject to change due to operational factors or inclement weather.

Project Description:
The project is replacing four miles of sewer along State College Boulevard from the SR-91 to Orangewood Avenue in the City of Anaheim. Construction began in summer 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.  Once the project is complete, eight million gallons of wastewater will be diverted to OCSD’s Plant No. 1 in Fountain Valley for treatment before being send to the Groundwater Replenishment System.  This is Phase B of a two-phase project; Phase A was completed in 2017 and took place from Yorba Linda Blvd. to SR-91 in the City of Fullerton.
